This is an exciting novel about corruption in the police force (namely, the Australian Federal Police), and is a captivating and exhilarating read, ending in the hero seizing control of Australia’s Parliament House. One Director, Thomas R Gough, has already declared that it would make a great action movie!

I rarely get an opportunity to update this website, because I am working on so many other projects at the moment (like marketing “The Profile”, for one) but I had to sing the praises of one very special lady, Julie Morrison, for having written another wonderful review of one of my books. Her complete review can be seen here, but this is just a taste:

What takes place… is a fascinating roller coaster ride that rendered the book unputdownable. The charming and quirky characters were so believable, that as I read, I watched the whole thing unfold as if watching a movie.
The book is a bit rocky at the beginning, but… it becomes a fast-paced read. Find out how this tenacious girl keeps moving forward in the face of daunting circumstances, and what she discovers along the way.
I enjoyed this book immensely! As most of you know I am not a big reader of fiction, but this reads almost like a movie. Bravo, Mr Babic, I look forward to your next work!

My own personal order of The Profile finally arrived today

What do you say after a review like that? Talk about humbling. I am so appreciative of this generous soul taking time out of her own busy life to not only read my book, but to then also post (such a glowing) review (and on Amazon also!). Julie, you are my number one fan as of now! And believe me, you will see my next novel first, and probably sooner than you think…

Read Julie’s full review here.

Imagine how proud you would be to be called “A Grand Resource”! Well, that’s exactly what fellow-writer Julie Morrison has just called me at:

http://onelaparoundthesun.blogspot.com/2009/02/gregory-victor-babic.html

And that’s just the first line of the review, mind you. She then goes on:

It has been a joy to discover Australian author, Gregory Babic’s book, Words to Inspire Writers. As a huge collector of quotes and verses, a 300 author 1,100 quote tome was one just I couldn’t pass up. I’ve been reading through the gi-normous book of quotes amassed here. My heavens! What a vast body of work! It truly is impressive.

By now I’m somewhat flushed and embarrassed, I can tell you. Rather than quote the rest of her whole review (which I do hope you will click on and read), please let me just share a bit of her ending (it leaves this very proud Author quite breathless):

I like being surprised daily by the vast number of brilliant authors, spanning thousands of years, from whom Babic has gleaned priceless gems of wisdom. The index in the book’s finale is worth double its weight in gold, and truly simplifies finding favorite authors and quotes. It seems impossible to peruse such a fine volume and not come away inspired and enriched. I’m happy to reference Words to Inspire Writers and recommend it to friends and writers.

Thank you so much Julie. Your generosity is truly a lost treasure in our oh-so-selfish world. Thank you, thank you, thank you is all I can say.

I was delighted to receive notice today that my new young adult novel, The Profile (now available from Amazon.com), has been reviewed on Aussie Authors. The reviewer, Warren Thurston, has very nicely summarised the message of the book as follows:

The author has captured the essence of change that occurs to us all in our formative years. He has portrayed Danielle’s transition from a young girl to early womanhood in a delightful way. Young girls will be able to identify with her what they are going though themselves, and I am sure will not put the book down once they have started to read it.

I have just received my copy of THE AUSTRALIAN WRITER Issue #360 (June 2008-August 2008 ) and am delighted to see a wonderful review of my book, Words to Inspire Writers, on p.15. Here is what it has to say (reproduced with the permission of Editor Daan Spijer):

This is indeed an inspiring book for writers. From time to time we sit and stare into space and the wise or goading words of writers past and present may help you to pick up the quill and dip it into the ink pot again.

I, for one, will keep this book within easy reach. After all, if I’m going to be distracted, it may as well be by the wisdom of others.

The book is designed as a perpetual calendar, with three quotes for every day of the year: one each for the stages of preparation, creation and celebration. You can also open it at random for pot luck or prepare yourself for erudition at parties.

One thing you can learn from this collection, is that some of the most famous and revered writers have had their periods of stuckness. As Epictetus wrote almost 1900 years ago: If you want to be a writer, write! (April 14).

We may embrace the hubris of Charles Lamb and declaim: Damn the age. I’ll write for antiquity. (August 19), or the humility of Mark Twain: A successful book is not made of what is in it, but what is left out of it. (March 23).

It is possible, of course, to find writers’ quotes for oneself on the internet, but it is so much easier to benefit from the obvious hard work and thought that Greg Babic has put into this collection and his organisation of the material. It seems that Greg agrees with GB Shaw: Some people see things as they are and ask “Why?”. I dream of things that aren’t and ask “Why not?” He has asked and answered that second question.

Many of us have experienced that writing can be a lonely way of life. We trawl our experiences and our unconscious for inspiration. Some of us allow family, friends and editors to make the process less lonely. For those who still feel isolated, dip into this book daily.

I have some more very exciting news that I wanted to share with you: my first-ever Author Interview has just been posted at http://joyceanthony.tripod.com/blog/.
I feel very proud that Miss Anthony (http://joyceanthony.tripod.com/) wanted to interview me for her Books and Authors website, and hope you will take the time to read the posted interview (you might learn some surprising things about me that you did not know!). You’ll also see that I have a special gift (listed at the end of the interview) that is available exclusively to those who make the effort to check out Joyce’s site.
Otherwise, I hope you have found the time to download, read, and then review the short excerpt from my Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Semi-Finalist, “The Profile”, found here http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011G9XZ0.
